Killers in Eden
This is a small selection of the 22 shots Greg produced and animated for the ABC documentary “Killers in Eden”

The whales were all modelled , textured and animated by Greg and rigged and composited by Al Ferguson and Mark Kennedy. The above water leap was animated by Greg and composited by Dean Ervick and Al Ferguson.
These animations were Greg’s first ever attempt at 3D computer animation for a television or film production. Click on the images to see the animation video clips.

Happy Feet
Greg conceptualised, story-boarded and developed the complex Killer whale orca action sequence for the Warner Bros / Kennedy Miller Mitchel Film  “Happy Feet”.
He based the action concepts on examples of authentic orca behaviour. Being sentient animals that seem to have their own genuine language and dialects, Greg suggested that the orcas in the film only use real orca vocalisations rather than be given human voices.
Greg also orchestrated the crowd positions of thousands of penguins for hundreds of drama and dance shots in HappyFeet.

Echidna Airways
Greg developed some of these images in 1999 for a proposed 3D children’s animation series based on his Kid’s Book “Echidna Airways: the great Wungle Bungle Aerial Expedition”.  It has not yet been shown to a network .
Software and technology have moved on considerably since then and Greg is updating this project which has highly relevant environmental conservation themes and rip roaring action!

Saved by Dolphins
Recent work includes building, animating and compositing great white and mako sharks and bottlenose dolphins for the Bigwave/BBC documentary “Saved by dolphins”.
Greg and Al produced over 35 photorealistic  HD CGI shots for the show, mixing real and live dophins in the same frame, all for a shoestring budget.
Greg modelled, textured and animated all the sharks and dolphins. Compositing by Greg and Al Ferguson. Al set up the character rigging for the sharks and dolphins.

Marine documentary
Greg and Alister recently supervised an international team for a European theatrical release documentary “Turtle the incredible journey”
Greg’s work was required to remain secret and in documentary festival screenings around the world, even trained zoologists did not realise they were watching CGi marine reptiles and sharks. Watch a small vfx sample here
